The Compassionate
Bodhisattva

Stunning natural brass colour

A beautiful Manjushree statue made in India with much love, respect and care by Buddhist craftsmen and women.

Beautiful natural brass colour very striking indeed. And a large size being 39 cms tall approx.

Manjushri's right hand brandishes the sword which dispels ignorance and the other holds the stem of a lotus which finds full bloom on his left shoulder. This is a symbol of auspiciousness and a sign of 'pure birth.' While Manjushri's complete body is achieved in a silver hue, his ornaments are exclusively golden. With this almost divine color combination, coupled with the youthful gentleness on his face, the sculptor has succeeded eminently in capturing the benign essence of this compassionate bodhisattva.

The sword in his hand does not at all impart him a menacing demeanour. Rather, his downcast eyes, framed above by arched eyebrows, and the soft chiselling of his face, all manage to convey a compassion directed towards the viewer.

Measures: 39 x 25 centimetres

Extra large brass
Manjushree statue

This forty inch high and twenty-six inch wide brass image represents one of the early forms of Manjushri, the Buddhist Bodhisattva who stands for wisdom and knowledge, more particularly the knowledge of linguistics and grammar.
The image of the deity, with its two arms and the book Prajnaparmita, carried over a lotus, pursues initial idiom of Manjushri imagery. In early innovations, Manjushri images had normal two arms, and only rarely four, carrying in one of them a 'khadaga', sword, and in the other the book Prajnaparmita. Sometimes the book was carried over a lotus.

With the sword, Manjushri is conceived as eliminating darkness, and with the book, as spreading true knowledge.

Made in India with much care and respect by Buddhist craftsmen and women.
